While driving through New York state on my way to Boston, I noticed a small bird dive-bombing something on the ground in the field on my right. I saw a white blob, and figured it was the front of a hawk. But then the bird lifted its head up, and the white blob was actually the head of a bald eagle! I would have turned the car around to drive back to get a better look, but I know my luck when it comes to that. I would’ve just scared it off. Plus I didn’t have any means of photographing it other than my cell phone. It was still incredible to see one in the wild, even for just a second as I drove by, since I live in New Jersey, you know? They’re so rarely spotted around here, and I’m glad I got to see one.
I just wish I had my camera
and I’m sorry, especially since I actually gained a few followers during that time, oddly enough. So thank you, those of you who’ve follow me in the past month (:
I’ll be keeping this blog active again starting, well, this weekend, Since I hate queuing things.
A few bird-related updates, though:
I GOT A BUDGIE! Her name is Fester, and I’ve been working hard every day for the past month or two to get her hand tame. Bit of a tricky task, considering she came from a flock of budgies behind glass at Petco. She hardly even knew how to climb the cage bars when I got her home! Well, I’m only guessing she’s a girl, since she’s still pretty young (still has her “baby stripes”) and her cere is still a questionable color. By now she’s stepping on my hand pretty consistently when I offer her some spray millet, and I just hope it goes swimmingly from here (:
I’ll also try to post some of my wild bird experiences as well, including some photos. I haven’t gotten many lately, since the woods are infested with bugs this time of year, I can’t have the feeder up because of the bears, and I’ve been spending most of my outdoor time at the river watching Barn Swallows (which I have no hope of catching on camera, asdfghjldjsakl). We’ll see what I can dig up, though.
