Wherein Kim spends more money on her birds than herself
I took a trip to Petsmart today to pick up more food for Kiwi. And I just want to throw it out there that as much as I disapprove of some of Petsmart’s practices as far as where their pets come from, it’s hard to argue that they have the best prices for Kiwi’s nutri-berries. And on that note, I spent a good while playing with a green cheek conure while I was there.
The little guy had been there for more than a month now, at least. I was there last month with my friend who was buying a tank and supplies and everything for her new lizard, and the green cheek as well as some kind of sun conure hybrid were in the display. I feel bad, since now only the green cheek is left, no doubt because someone decided to buy the more colorful bird. It’s sad, because this guy was such a little sweetheart.
I didn’t expect much from a bird in a Petsmart display, but he was surprisingly social. When I first came in, he was at the bottom rolling around with some millet, but when I came back later, he was on a high branch close to the front sitting with one foot up. I made some of my budgie’s favorite noises and he perked right up! I held a bird toy - which I was buying for my budgie - up to the bars and he went to town nibbling on the strings! Honestly, I was surprised he wan’t at all intimidated by a big foreign object being put up in front of him. I tried sticking a finger in to see if he would let me scratch his head, but no luck. No bites either, though, so I can’t complain. I probably looked pretty weird, holding a toy from the shelf up to one of the pets in the store, but I don’t care. He was having fun.
Ughhh I just want to spend the ridiculous $350 and rescue him because he was such a sweetieeeeee and I’m nervous who he will end up going home with. His tail feathers were pretty messed up too, so I’m worried it’s of his own doing. He must be so lonely in thereeeeee ):
But yeah. Spent more on bird toys and food than I did on myself when I went to the mall right after. Well that’s life.
