Some of my better shots of the eagle I saw on Wednesday at the Franklin Pond, NJ.

I feel like the only person who ever pays attention.

It’s probably only because I’m a crazy bird lady who constantly scans the trees, but it amazes me when nobody else takes notice of what I’m looking at. I spent most of my day today looking for birds around town. Well first I tried to fly my kite, but it was way too windy, but I spotted a kestrel and then a hawk and decided to take out my camera. But there’s a bunch of people walking around, since this was at an athletic field, and nobody even stops to look at what I’m trying to photograph or anything. I don’t know, I usually expect people to say “Wow! Is that a hawk?” every time, but I realized that no one really cares.

Oh, and then I drove over to a lake nearby, just to kill time until I could visit my friend at work, and my god who knew there was a whole thriving ecosystem there. Well, except for the fish, they’re always dead, but they made a great meal for a pair of turkey vultures I saw there today. AND THEN. OH MY GOD AND THEN. A BALD EAGLE. OVER THE LAKE. IN NEW JERSEY. LIKE WHAT. I couldn’t believe I actually had my camera on me, and not in shitty light or anything either. That still doesn’t mean I got any fantastic pictures, because it was pretty far off and flight shots have a 10% chance of coming out decent on my camera, but still. It flew around the lake a few times, freaking out the ducks and geese and swans and all, made a few dives, then flew off to a tree branch that I couldn’t see from where I was. AND I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICES. Again, people walking, people fishing, none of them notice. My god, use your eyes every once in a while, you might see something pretty incredible.

I’ll post some of my mediocre shots soon.
